Cross-Curriculum Extensions
1) "All I Really Need" Song
Play the song, "All I Really Need." This song can be found on YouTube: "All I Really Need" by Raffi. Students can sing along while reading the verses that can be displayed by the teacher to the class. Have students come up with motions for the, "All I Really Need" song. Play the song and have students do their motions and sing along with the song. The class can also review which needs were mentioned in the song and if any needs were not mentioned.

2) Weather Changes
Students can ask staff members at the soup kitchen or food pantry what factors seem to affect the number of people that show up to use the services. Have students compare their knowledge about weather affects on plants and animals with the number of people that show up at the soup kitchen or food pantry. Students will write in their journal their thoughts about any correlations they can think of.

3) "How Can I Help" Graph
After students have started drawing their pages about how they would help someone if they saw someone in need (from Lesson 5), students can gather the data and make a graph representing the number of students helping others in different ways. Students can come up with general categories. The student should be able to compare the number of students in different categories of ideas of how they can help others by creating a graph.
